ASSET Group members have collaborated with industry partners to provide feasible and economical solutions for the current construction and infrastructure problems. It becomes important to educate the team and interested civil engineering students on emerging design practices and construction techniques. To achieve this paramount goal, visiting tours of local successful and well-known construction companies are conducted. This is an aim to help future engineers familiarize with real-world problems and solutions. A recent visit to the Rapid-Span Group Of Companies, by over 25 UBCO students, including undergraduate and graduate students, was indeed an eye-opening experience in the precast concrete industry.
During the visit, the team toured around the construction facilities of different precast elements such as beams, post-tensioned slabs, architectural precast arcs, structural shear walls, etc. The fundamental principles behind the design of current connections in the precast industry to connect precast panels and walls provided an insight. The professional engineers engaged in exciting conversations with the students and the team.
