The ASSET Group recently hosted a compelling presentation by Dr. Molina Hutt on “Engineering for Seismic Resilience.” The event took place on Friday, June 2, 2023, at the School of Engineering, UBC Okanagan.
Dr. Hutt, a renowned expert in seismic engineering, captivated the audience with an insightful showcase of sample research projects led by the Engineering for Seismic Resilience Lab (ESRLab). The lab’s work is focused on developing methodological approaches to assess seismic risk in buildings, with a strong emphasis on its implications for urban resilience. Additionally, Dr. Hutt highlighted the lab’s efforts in translating this valuable knowledge into practical tools and information for engineers, seismic planners, and policy makers.
The presentation also featured an introduction to the UBC Disaster Resilience Research Network, a collaborative initiative co-led by Dr. Hutt. The network plays a crucial role in advancing research and enhancing collaboration to bolster disaster resilience within communities. Dr. Hutt shared insights from a recent project in partnership with the new BC Ministry of Emergency Management and Climate Readiness, underlining the significance of collaborative efforts in tackling pressing resilience challenges.
